KEMMAF Rules of Conduct
The Kenya Mixed Martial Arts Federation (KEMMAF) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the sport. These rules govern all MMA Clubs, Coaches, and Athletes registered under the Federation.
Preamble
This Rule Set governs all MMA Clubs, Coaches, and Athletes registered under the National MMA Federation of Kenya (KEMMAF). The purpose is to ensure safety, discipline, integrity, and development of MMA in Kenya. These rules are binding to all stakeholders and are enforced by the Federation Disciplinary Committee.
SECTION A: CLUB AFFILIATION RULES
1. Registration
1.1 Every Club must be registered and licensed annually by the Federation.
1.2 Clubs must submit: Certificate of Registration, Coach licenses, Athlete list, and Training venue details (location, address and training time schedules).
2. Facilities & Safety
2.1 Clubs must have a safe training area with mats, first aid kit, and clean facilities.
2.2 All sparring must be supervised by a licensed coach.
2.3 Clubs must enforce use of protective gear: mouthguard, groin guard, shin guards, (headgear for amateurs).
3. Compliance
3.1 Clubs must follow Federation rules, anti-doping policy, and athlete welfare guidelines.
3.2 Clubs shall not allow unlicensed athletes to compete in sanctioned events.
3.3 Clubs must report any injuries, misconduct, or doping violations to the Federation within 48 hours.
4. Development Obligations
4.1 Each club shall run at least 1 grassroots program or school outreach per year.
4.2 Clubs must release national team athletes for camps and duties when called by the Federation.
SECTION B: ATHLETE RULES & CODE OF CONDUCT
5. Licensing & Eligibility
5.1 All athletes must hold a valid Federation license and medical clearance.
5.2 Minimum age: 18 years for Pro, 16-17 years for Amateur with parental consent.
5.3 Athletes must update medicals annually: bloodwork, ECG, eye exam.
6. Training & Competition Conduct
6.1 Athletes must train with respect for coaches, teammates, and opponents.
6.2 No use of prohibited substances. Subject to WADA + NADA Kenya testing anytime.
6.3 Athletes must make weight and attend official weigh-ins. No extreme weight cutting.
6.4 Athletes must honor bout agreements. Pull-outs require medical proof 14 days before event.
7. Discipline & Integrity
7.1 No match-fixing, betting on own fights, or bribery.
7.2 No use of abusive language, violence outside competition, or bringing the sport into disrepute.
7.3 Athletes must represent Kenya with dignity in local and international events.
7.4 Social media: No hate speech, doping promotion, or attacks on officials/judges or any stake holders.
8. Medical & Safety
8.1 Athletes must declare all injuries and follow medical suspension periods.
8.2 Post-fight medical check is mandatory.
8.3 Athletes are responsible for their own insurance, but must be covered by promoter during events.
SECTION C: DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
9. Violations & Sanctions
The Federation Disciplinary Committee may impose: Warning, Fine, Suspension, License Revocation, Ban.
Violations include:
- 1. Doping
- 2. Violence, indiscipline
- 3. Competing without license
- 4. Breach of contract
- 5. Bringing the Federation into disrepute
10. Appeals
Any athlete or club may appeal to the Federation Tribunal within 14 days. Further appeal to Sports Disputes Tribunal.
